Participants will learn the ancient healing trance dance of the tarantella, used to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula, a form of depression that afflicted mainly often victims of abuse. This part of the workshop focuses on releasing blockages of sexual energies, breaking the imaginary "spider web" of the subconscious mind. Alessandra begins and ends the sessions with a meditation utilizing a chant to the Sun, Jesce Sole, in the Lydian scale and to the Moon. The calming and lilting harmonies of this chant combined with the ocean drum guides students into complete relaxation. 1st day: Alessandra will lead participants will explore the inner shadow, and go into the darkenss before the emerge into the light with RITMO E DANZA DI SAN ROCCO or SPINNING DANCE – This dance originating in Calabria during the Middle Ages during the time of the plague to heal people and as a release from overpowering fears of death. Due to the trance-inducing movements and incessant spinning many people enter ecstatic states during this dance ** 2nd day – Alessandra will lead the trance ceremony of the PIZZICA TARANTATA or Spider Dance, a very fast 6/8 rhythm from Puglia, with different accents, which originated as music therapy to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula.
